Weekly Web Recipe Review: Chocolate Cinnamon Malt

Welcome to the Weekly Web Recipe Review! Almost every week my wife and I will select a healthy recipe from a popular blog or website, make it, and give a full review. Neither of us are chefs, but we both have basic skills and can follow a recipe.

We won’t be republishing the recipe (you have to click through to their site for that), but we will give our honest impression if it was any good. We’ll also let you know how long it took to prepare, any difficulties, and we’ll list the cost of the ingredients.

This Weeks Recipe:

Chocolate Cinnamon Malt from Toadally Primal Smoothies

The environmental and food quality can be less than ideal at times here in Mexico so I’m always on the look-out for good ways to keep my antioxidant levels up. The two main ingredients in this one, raw cacao and cinnamon, have some of the highest levels there are.

This recipe also calls for coconut milk, and since I’ve been making it fresh, I’m a sucker for any recipes that include it.

The Prep and The Cooking:

Quick and easy! Put it all in the blender, hit blend, and you’re done!

The Cost:

*Note- Since moving to Mexico all costs are based on internet pricing from the US, not my actual costs.

  1. Coconut Milk – $.99 cents
  2. Whey Protein Powder – roughly $1.00
  3. Banana (frozen) – roughly $.10 cents
  4. Cacao Powder – roughly $.16 cents
  5. Cinnamon – roughly $.30 cents

Total For 1 Chocolate Cinnamon Malt – $2.55

The Review:

I have to say Primal Toad always comes up with the best and most unique smoothie recipes.

If you’re feeling tired or need an afternoon kick, then this one is for you. It will keep you buzzing in a natural comfortable way for an hour or two after drinking.

The amount of cinnamon is fairly intense, but somehow it works. It tastes fantastic. It is also filling and could easily be used for a light meal or a snack.

Note: For an authentic Mexican twist, you could replace the whey powder with 2-3 raw quail eggs. This is how Mexicans make Chocomil (chocolate milk).

My wife sneaks kale in our morning smoothies for antioxidants. I’m going to try this one tomorrow AM. Thanks!

Nothing wrong with kale, but I’m sure it would be nice to change it up every now and then with some chocolate :-) Enjoy!
